Business Plan

General

  •   North Star Productions is a nonprofit corporation with a 501 (c)3 tax exempt status, and governed by a volunteer board of directors.

  •   The Institute of Outdoor Drama at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, has completed a feasibility study enthusiastically endorsing the development of the outdoor drama. The following is an excerpt from the study:

"Few project proposals appear to have such high prospects for success as the Augusta drama proposal. Its merit and potential for artistic, cultural, and economic prosperity are high, and it is the opinion of the study team and the Institute of Outdoor Drama that the project should be aggressively pursued..."

  •   Over 300 acres of property reflecting the natural beauty of the tri-state area, located in Kentucky and overlooking the Ohio River, has been acquired. A site has been selected by The Institute of Outdoor Drama, for the 1,000 seat amphitheatre and an adjacent historical village for the purpose of depicting life in the Tri-State area during the 1850's.

Support

  •   North Star Productions has hired the playwright team of Isaac Turner and Ken Jones, contracted with KZF Design, Inc. for an overall master plan, and employed an engineering firm to design the road. North Star is currently working on a environmental study with the State of Kentucky and also has Joe Conger as Consulting Artistic Director.

  •   The project has received many letters of support from prominent citizens of the tri-state area, including business leaders, historians, theatre professionals, educators, as well as political and civic leaders.

Benefits

  •   The feasibility study projects an $11,000,000.00 impact to the region for the outdoor drama's season of 10 weeks. Additional income to the region will result with the Center being used for additional months before and after the performing season. An excess of 100+ seasonal jobs will be brought to the area, with an additional five to eight jobs requiring full time personnel.

  •   Tourism will be increased by bringing an estimated 60,000+ theater attendees during the summer months, along with tourism from additional spring and fall programs.

  •   A state-of-the-art outdoor facility, with its own on-site parking, will be available to local communities for a variety of uses during spring and fall months.

  •   The amphitheatre may also be used to bring additional cultural and educational activities, such as concerts, gospel and folk music festivals, theatre and history clinics, seminars, etc.

Accessibility

  •   The facility will be in complete compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act.

  •   Group, corporate, senior and student ticket discounts will be available for each production.

Education

  •   North Star Productions is dedicated to imaginations of students and teachers with many prospects for student involvement in related historical projects, such as walking tours, behind the scenes tours and assistance in student produced dramas, musical events and writing challenges. An affiliation with a university to offer course credit in theatre in conjunction with the outdoor drama is under construction.
